Rebuild Packages - Acoustat Servo Amplifier
The Acoustat servo is an amp I know very well and have done extensive development with. So
much so that my modded version sounds nowhere near like stock. But all my rebuild packages are actually guilty of that. However, and this is a big however, I'm not quite ready to offer an upgrade package just yet. It's still a work in progress. I'm not sure about any target date either and I'll tell you why. Since I have dealt with the servo it's been my experience that most people who own them like to do their own work when it comes to upgrading. In keeping step with that idea, I can offer some parts that may be of interest as listed at the bottom.
What I can also do at this time is offer a maintenance package to those that are interested. The cost is only $100 and includes a new gold-plated opamp socket, BB opamp, and new electrolytics in both the front and mid power supplies, along with some "softer" recovery diodes. Any bugs are taken out too, as some of the early production models had reliability problems.
This amp can actually be made to be rather reliable if all the proper steps are taken. If new tubes, or any other work needs to be done, those will be extra and I will be more than happy to work with you. I give great rates and can do anything that needs doing, having done it all and a lot you've never heard of. I've also worked on any number of these amps that conventional repair places have gotten ahold of, and can tell you the news is not always good. You have to be tech savvy on this amp. To my knowledge, nobody is addressing all the issues and offering the indepth work needed to put it up in the stratosphere. I'm afraid a part for part replacement that's common fare for the servo won't really take it to where it's capable of going either. Improved yes, truly awesome, don't think so. Sorry to be so unforgiving and sound demanding, but great audio can sometimes be that way. This is the most complex amp I know of and certainly among the most interesting.
